Offered today from my personal collection of high end antique knives is a very neat & rare old Vignos Canton Ohio 3 Blade Swell Center knife with picture handles & name. This knife has no photos, or maybe they have faded away from age, but there is a name on one side. This knife once belonged to W. A. Dinsmore. The handles are a clear celluloid that are in great condition with just one crack at pin on name side. The 3 blades are in great shape too, with just some slight staining & sharpening. All 3 blades have great snap both ways & the two smaller blades have half stop too! Bolsters are nickel silver & in super shape. The main blade with long pull is marked at tang N.C.Co. over CANTON.O. This stands for Novelty Cut Co., which was founded by Augustus Vignos in 1879. He died in 1925 and his name stopped appearing on their knives after this time. Company went out of business in about 1948. Novelty Cut Co. was famous for its` picture handle knives and Ad knives! The smaller blade on top on name side of knife is marked at tang same as larger blade. The other smaller knife has the triangle stamping with VIGNOS over CANTON.O, which only appears on the older knives! I estimate this knife to be from the late 1800`s, probably around 1890 or so, but could be older! This knife would be very nice for display for collectors of rare hard to find vintage knives!
