pages. Pages are single sided: you work through the first 90 pages,
then turn the book over and work through the next 90 pages. So, the
backside of page one is the last page, 181.
This is "A Complete Course In Touch Typewriting, consisting of Forty Carefully Graded Lessons." (not a revised edition)
Book covers are partially blackened, possibly from smoke damage. Cover
is loose but still held by the string binding. There are some water
marks and some page wrinkle. Some pages have pencil marks made by the
student.
A pocket, inside front cover, is formed by a piece
of glued-down grocery-sack-type of brown paper, there are some writings
on this paper. Inside the pocket and also found inside the book, were
the following pieces of misc. paper:
2. Two pencil
drawings, one of a coffee cup/saucer combo, and the other of a sugar
bowl. On the backside of one is the city name of Kellogg, Idaho,
November 28, 1923.
3. A 3x8 typed piece of paper with all
the characters a particular typewriter had; a note at bottom says "this
is a specimen of this machine and these are its separate characters."
4. An 11-inch long, single newspaper column of want ads. Ads for men or
woman, with pay from $10 daily, $25 weekly, and even a $5,000 yearly
commission. Job listed such as Lady Barber; selling Guaranteed
Waterproof Aprons; selling ladies silk and muslin underwear, and
others.
5. A small piece of newspaper with just bits of a
story on it. Story is headlined as "Grand Jury and House Committee
Tackle Charges Made in Chicago." Subpoenas were issued for an Attorney
General, another attorney, and a former Dept. Of Justice agent.
6. A small white envelope, blank.
7. A piece of paper with another drawing of a Sugar Bowl, with a hand
written note on the back, can only read some of the words.
8.
A class curriculum paper, from Behnke-Walker, which was probably the
name of a school. It shows list of classes, and is marked as to time of
day when this student was in those classrooms.
