Miss Arnold's Book of
Crocheting, Knitting, Tatting & Drawn Work No 4
CD Republication!
Originally Published 1884!
If you are the first to bid on this auction, using the buy-it-now option, YOU WIN! There is no chance of being outbid! DON'T WAIT!
Up for bid is a CD REPUBLICATION of the original ''Miss Arnold's Book of Crocheting, Knitting, Tatting & Drawn Work, No. 4'' published in Glasgo, Conneticut in 1894! These folks provided some of the best instruction books for the needlearts ever published! The experienced needlecraft and fancywork artesians of the late 1800's (Victorian era) clamoured for this type of item and with good reason! (Original is NOT for sale)
This HISTORIC CD republication contains 72 pages of steel plate etchings, instructions and designs for creating the extremely handsome soft home furnishings, doilies, clothing embelishment, infant attire, drawn work and laces of the Victorian era! You will also find historical facts on these crafts as well as various RARE and UNIQUE guidelines to assist you along the way to recreating the needleworked items of a classy and gentile historical society!
These instructions are characteristic of the fancy work done by our oh-so-feminine lady ancestors during the Victorian era! This is the perfect opportunity to purchase your own version of another wonderful craft book revealing our heritage from early America and Europe! Great for the recreationists and those who just value the old stuff!
An excerpt:
It is with much pleasure I call your attention to this, my latest, illustrated handbook of crocheting, knitting and tatting, No. 4. In compiling it I have spared no pains to secure new and attractive patterns. These patterns consist of a variety of art work which can hardly fail to please ladies of taste.
There are 33 crochet patterns, 3 knitted patterns, 6 drawn work patterns, 8 tatting patterns, 50 in all.
The crochet consists of 6 tidies, (these 6 tidies will also make beautiful patterns for bedspreads): a set of table mats, 3 plate doilies, 2 children's bonnets, trimming for infant's dress, 2 chemise yokes, 1 sailor collar, 2 aprons with crochet trimmings, 15 miscellaneous patterns for trimmings.
Three knitting patterns include one for necktie.
Drawn work patterns, viz.: 3 patterns for doilies, 3 patterns for handkerchiefs.
Tatting patterns, viz.: collar and cuffs, 2 small doilies, 2 lace and 1 insertion, trimmings for handkerchiefs.
I cannot but anticipate a hearty welcome for this book. Every effort has been made to have it the equal in originality and artistic merits to books of much higher cost. The plates are from a process which not only gives the designs of each pattern, but which show every thread, and so brings out the full beauty of the work.''
