Morton Downey Jr. KDEO-AM San Diego February 1964
You probably remember Morton Downey Jr. as a talk show host whose mouth was loud and his show was wild. Before he was a loudmouth on TV he was a screaming DJ in the days of Beatlemania. His DJ career saw him make marks at stations from Florida to California and many points in between. Seems like Mort was competing with his friend Joey Reynolds for the most times fired from a radio station.
This aircheck of Mort from his DJ days features him as the PM Drive jock on KDEO-AM in San Diego. You'll hear The Mad Lad (that was what Mort called himself) spin the hits of the day. He also shares the story of bringing his baby daughter home just a few days earlier. This is a fun example of the West Coast radio sound from that time performed by a name you never thought you would hear do it.
