Classic 1940's - 1960's Juvenile Delinquency
Film Collection DVD

This DVD explores Juvenile Delinquency and what could be done to counter its effects in the 1940s to 1960s. While the films are very simplistic when compared to our modern troubles (i.e. more guns, drugs, violence, etc.), the DVD still offers a very good presentation of the roots of juvenile delinquency and shows specific steps that could be taken to ward off bad influences at an early age. The films are simultaneously quite entertaining and educational.

Here are all the films that make up this historical collection:

A Chance to Play (1950)

Film shows the need for recreational activities and centers wher epeople of all walks of life can participate in sports and other recreational activites. Also shows whah happens when young people don't have places like this to spend their liesure time. It makes a special emphasis on the need for nighttime recreational areas lit by floodlights as that is the time when most young people get into trouble.

Cheating (1952)

John has math anxiety but has to maintain good grades as he is a Student Council representative. To solve the problem, he convinces Mary to help him cheat on his math tests. As John takes greater and greater risks, he finally gets caught and as punishment for cheating gets kicked off the Student Council.

Ask Me, Don't Tell Me (1961)

This film documents the problems of juvenile delinquency in San Francisco. It shows the problems that teens with too much time have - including joining gangs and getting into violent confrontations.

What About Juvenile Delinquency? (1955)

This film deals with the idea that curfews and a solution to gangs and juvenile delinquency. It shows how one gang member transforms and goes in front of CIty Hall to argue against the imposition of a curfew as all it does is give more power to the gangs who won't listen anyways and acts as a corruptor to the young who feel they are being punished for something they didn't do - which makes them want to do something to justify the punishment.

Shows the life of a teen who just doesn't fit in and how this feeling of being an outcast leads to a life of anger and violence.

This film shows how a juvenile court works. It follows the experiences of a group of young juvenile delinquents stealing a car and follows them through the system till finally being released back into the world.
