What Exactly is HID and What Will It Do For Me?
HID stands for High Intensity Disacharge. Instead of using a filament like regular light bulbs, HID creates and intense light by creating an "arc" or spark much like is made during welding.
By converting to HID, you will get the following....
MUCH brighter night time illumination - HID is about 3 times brighter than modern Halogen lighting.
Longer bulb life. - because there is no filament, HID lasts up to 10 times longer than filament bulbs.
HID uses significantly less power (after start up) than conventional bulbs.
As a result, you will enjoy increased nighttime visibility and brilliant light with your choice of color hue .
What does "K" mean ?
You will often hear references to terms such as "6000K", "8000K" etc when reading about HID kits. This is a scientific term that relates to the color and hue of a light source. It has absolutely nothing to do with the actual INTENSITY of the light but rather only relates to the COLOR of the light. Useable light falls roughly into the 3000K to 12000K range. The Brightest HID lights are 6000K and 8000K.
What does Lumens refer to?
Lumen refers to a measure of the perceived power of light. A 100 Watt light bulb produces about 1700 Lumens.
What makes HID so Bright?
HID lights utilize an electical ARC to produce light. Very much like that seen during welding. In contast, Halogen headlights use bulbs with filaments just light household light bulbs. While it is possible to get a very bright filament bulb, the power required to create that light significantly exceeds the power needed to acheive tyhe same light output with HID.
I have heard that HID systems can damage my wiring. Is this true?
Some cheap kits lack internal relays and proper fusing to handle to initial start up current required to initialize the HID bulb arc. Our kits are high quality, German and Japanes engineered to safely allow them to work on all modern motorcycles without fear of damage to your wiring. With that said, your bike's alternator must have sufficient capability to produce the current needed to initialize the HID lights. Most motorcycles manufactured since the mid 90's have sufficient electrical capability.
Is the installation a Do-It-Yourself type project?
Yes! No special skills are required. If you are confident in your mechanical skills, you should be able to install your HID kit in 20 - 45 minutes. There is no cutting required and you can easily remove the HID system at any time.
Which kit is right for my motorcycle ?
Kits differ by the type of bulb they use. You can refer to your owners manual or look on the bulb itself as it will usually be marked. You can also call you local dealer to get this information.
Will I have High and Low Beams after installing this kit?
Yes! This kit comes with an HID Low Beam and Halogen High Beam included.
How long will the bulbs last?
HID systems do not have filaments to burn out like Halogen bulbs. The life expectancy of your HID bulbs is 2,500 - 3,500 hours depending on conditions. It is quite possible you will never have to replace them.
Are XENON HID headlight systems street legal?
No. Until legislation catches up with riders needs, all HID conversion kits are not approved by the DOT for highway use or on public roads. Our HID kits are designed for racing, competitive, show or off-road use only. The buyer assumes all liability for use of this product and agrees to use the product under those terms.
