1875 Encyclopedia Britannica:
Complete 25 Volume 9th Edition

The Encyclopedia Britannica Ninth Edition (1875) is a 24 volume reference work with a 25th volume devoted to an index. It was compiled from 1875 to 1889 and is often references as "The Scholar's Edition" due to its very high quality compared to prior editions. The editor of the ninth edition was T.S. Baynes, professor of logic, metaphysics and English literature at St. Andrews. He was joined by William Robertson Smith, a Semitic scholar, in 1881 and it was Smith who completed the monumental editing job when Baynes died in 1887.

These ancient volumes are a treasure trove of interesting and unusual facts and make for fascinating reading to get a sense of the times and their knowledge of the world vs what we now know of the world. This makes them perfect for researchers, historians and anyone interested in this time period and the happenings of the world at that time.
