TENDER DRACULA a k a LA
GRANDE TROUILLE (France) a.k.a. CONFESSIONS OF A BLOOD DRINKER (U.K.) This ultra-rare French horror-farce finds PETER CUSHING playing MacGregor, a jaded horror actor whose physician advises him to give up horror in lieu of romantic roles???for the good of his heart. This annoys his sleazy producer, who sends two of his finest???his script writer and his makeup artist, accompanied by the "erotic dream girls??????to MacGregor???s castle to try and "persuade??? him back to his old job of blood drinking. At his castle, MacGregor tries to convince his dining companions that horror is dead. Romance is the only way to go: "Stick to romance. Beauty is truth, truth beauty.??? But the girls ask, "Why can???t you have a movie with both horror and romance? Romance by itself is pretty horrible.??? Cue orgy scenes, graphic horror, and unintelligible dream sequences. Difficult to aptly describe, this film has been called horror/comedy/farce/sex-film and more. This high camp "classic??????including musical numbers, liberal splashings of gore, full-frontal nudity and other exploitation elements???has generally been ignored since its release in 1974. It is very rarely mentioned in Cushing???s film lists, perhaps due to fans preferring to ignore the fact that their idol occasionally made some dodgy movies. One rare review, perhaps attempting to justify the film???s existence, speculates that Tender Dracula can be interpreted as "a symbolic account of Peter Cushing???s life.??? You decide???Enjoy! Dubbed in English.
