A Homemade (Old-German-Recipe) Lye Soap Bar!

I just made a batch of this wonderful home made soap a few weeks ago and thought that there might be others who would be interested in trying our homemade laundry and bath soap!

I received the recipe for this great soap from my maternal aunt. She, as well as my mother and her sisters, lived life in the simple, hardworking Midwestern way that their German emigrant parents' did (who came from lower Germany, via Prussia, to the Dakotas to homestead in the late 1880's). These farmer's daughters knew the homemade is the cheapest and best! They made both bar lye soap and the soft liquid variety for personal use and the Saturday wash day.

I have found nothing better than this for washing my family's whites, baby clothes, cloth diapers, towels, denims, throw rugs, and my husband's work clothes! (He is a metal fabricator which means lots of ground in grease and grim!) It is the best for dealing with protein, food, grass and grease stains (Just wet both the clothing stain and corner of the bar of soap and rub stain well. Then wash in warm/hot water as usual)! It gets them cleaner than any commercial detergent or cleaners and also makes them soft and more absorbent (great for bath towels, kitchen linens and cloth diapers!

This recipe's ingredients are all natural, lye, rainwater, home rendered lard, etc! This makes it gentle for the bath and general hand washing also. This batch has no added chemicals or perfumes that might irritate the skin and has a clean, extremely mild, clean natural scent!

This is not only a great treat for your self but to share this with family, friends and coworkers as a unique and thoughtful gift! It has a shelf life of many years.
