(This hairdressing process appears to be similar to the Marcel waving of the earlier decade but seems the waves are set to dry using combs instead of curling irons. I remember my mother setting her hair in the same fashion using long hair pins or bobby pins and then removing them when her hair had fully dried. I would imagine the name "bobby pins" came from their being used during the 20s craze for "bobbed" hair.)
